Crafty Little Gnome The Best Hair Color to Cover Grey Roots

Hey Gnomies, As most of you know I love to experiment with my hair. I have had it literally every color of the rainbow. Almost a year ago I shaved my head for a role on a TV show and have been not-so patiently waiting for it to grow back. I was doing really well about letting the virgin hair grow back until I decided it would be more fun to color it lavender. Since then I have been coloring it all different shades of mermaid blue, purple and green.

If you want to dye your hair fantasy colors like blue or pink you need to bleach your hair first unless it is naturally very light blonde.

I always to go Sally Beauty to shop for hair supplies. When I started coloring my hair last spring the staff at Sally suggested that I use AGEbeautiful bleach to lighten my hair before I added the bright colors. I loved the results I got with the AGEbeautiful products and bright colorful hair dyes and now it’s time to go back to my natural brown hair color.  Fantasy colors are a lot of fun but I tend to be more of a low maintenance person when it comes to my style and beauty routine. I’ve actually noticed a trend in the past few years with women experimenting with rainbow hair colors right over their white hair. I love it and think it looks great, but in a lot of circumstances (like for work) a more natural hair color is appropriate.

My hair roots are about an inch long and I asked the girls working at Sally to help me chose a color that would most closely match my natural hair color. I went with 5NN Intense. As we age, our hair experiences 5 signs of aging. It loses volume, manageability, color, moisture and shine. AGEbeautiful anti-aging hair color is the first hair color developed to fight all 5 signs of aging in your hair. AGEbeautiful contains melanin, keratin peptide, silk protein and a patented conditioning technology to replenish hair with the essential components that are lost with aging. The unique formula penetrates deeply and absorbs quickly to deliver beautiful, rich color. Hair feels instantly fuller, silkier and radiates with shine.

How to Color Your Hair?

Follow these steps to get perfect color every time:

Mixing and application:

For AGEbeautiful permanent hair color mix with the developer at a ratio or 1:1 (2 fl oz of color and add 2 fl oz of developer)

  • Put on an old t-shirt or invest in a cape.
  • Wear gloves
  • Apply conditioner or Vaseline around your hairline/forehead and on tops of ears to prevent color staining.
  • Measure the developer first, then add the color.
  • Mix well
  • Apply color to dry hair
  • Leave on for 30 minutes or 45 minutes if you have 50% or more grey.
  • Rinse hair well, shampoo and condition like normal.

How often do you need to touch up grey roots?

How often you need to touch up your color will depend on your hair. If you’re 100 percent gray, it’s best to color your hair every three to four weeks. If you are 50 percent gray, you can stretch it out to every five weeks. Roots will need to be touched up every eight weeks or when needed.

  • If you are retouching, apply hair color to the new growth only. Process for 30 minutes or 45 minutes if you have 50% or more grey.
  • Add a little water and work through lengths and ends for the final 3-5 minutes.
  • Rinse with warm water, shampoo and condition.

Here are my after results:

I absolutely love my new hair color. It looks natural and perfect for the winter months ahead. What do you think? Let me know in the comments and make sure you check out AGEbeautiful on your next trip to Sally Beauty.
