All About Curls Worked On Our Different Hair Types

When Zotos Professional approached NaturallyCurly to tell our community about their new All About Curls collection, I was very excited. Getting a new set of styling products for curly hair is one of my all-time favorite things!

I was elated to receive the entire All About Curls collection and very surprised by the variety of products:

However, I felt that this collection was going to be different, and that prompted me to think outside the box with today’s review.

Of course, I wanted to try the products myself, but I also wanted a different perspective on this new collection. That’s why I connected with one of my favorite curly hair influencers Crystal Callazo, better known as @style_dose, to get her take on the new All About Curls collection.

In this exclusive interview, you’ll learn about Crystal, her regimen, and her thoughts on the All About Curls collection. You’ll also get a special in-store and online offer from Zotos Professional, the creators of your soon-to-be-favorite curly collection All About Curls. Keep reading for details!

Hi, Crystal! Will you please tell the NaturallyCurly community a little about yourself?

I’m Crystal known as style_dose on Instagram, where I share all my tips and thoughts on naturally curly hair. Creating social media content is something I enjoy doing during my free time. During the day, I’m a full-time Stylist for Century21 Department Stores.

I’m a very creative person and love having an outlet to express my creativity, which is why I love blogging…and of course to help all my awesome followers who are struggling with embracing their natural curls!

I recently entered the 30s bracket this past May, so I’m currently out here just trying to live life, gaining as much knowledge as I can and learning from all my experiences, while enjoying it all!

What’s your curl pattern? Can you share the details of your curl texture?

I have a looser spiral curl pattern. Some people may identify it as a cross between 3a and 3b hair.

Depending on what styler I use, I can have a tighter spiral curl or elongated loose curls. My hair is not thick but more on the finer side. I do tend to have high porosity hair, which is probably because my hair is often color treated.

Tell us about your styling routine.

I prefer to use gels for styling. After washing and deep conditioning, I like to split my hair into two parts, apply a leave-in conditioner, and then comb it through to make sure the product is evenly distributed. I then flip my head upside down and apply my styler using the scrunching technique. Finally, I let my hair air dry.

We’re very excited to hear your thoughts about the new All About Curls collection from Zotos Professional. Tell us which item in the new All About Curls collection did you like best and why?

I loved the All About Curls Divine Treatment! Being blonde can dry out your hair, so deep conditioners are a vital part in my hair routine. It helps add moisture to your hair, and All About Curls Divine Treatment did just that!…it gave my hair the perfect dose of moisture.

Will you be adding any of the All About Curls products to your Holy Grail collection?

I could totally see the All About Curls Divine Treatment and the High Definition Gel working their way into my collection!

That’s great to hear! I’m curious about your Type 3 curly hair journey? Have you always embraced your curly hair?

I have not always embraced my curly hair, it’s maybe been a little over 5 years that I finally and truly started embracing it. I used to hate wearing my hair curly, I’d straighten every chance I got. Especially for anything important like holidays, any special occasion, dates, and even interviews. I didn’t have the knowledge to style my curly hair that I do today, and that makes all the difference!

Your curls are amazing! What tricks or tips have you figured out to make them look so healthy and lustrous?

To keep my hair healthy, I deep condition at least twice a week, consistently! As for styling tips, I learned that applying your styling products onto your hair while it is soaking wet will give you the best results. You’ll have more defined and less frizzy curls!

Thanks for chatting with us today. Before we go, what words of curl wisdom do you have for new curlistas?

You have to keep in mind that it won’t happen overnight. Patience and consistency are key!

Also, you’ll have a lot of trial and error. What works for one curly girl may not work for you. Do not be discouraged, instead experiment with different products and techniques to find out what works best for you! In the end, the results make it all worth it!

Style Dose is so cool! I really enjoyed learning about her journey, and am glad that she liked the new All About Curls collection from Zotos Professional.

What About Type 4 Curls?

Oops! I almost forgot to tell you: I too liked the collection! If you’ve been keeping up with me @gerilynhayes on Instagram, you know that I keep my hair in protective styles every quarter of the year. But there’s always a brief period when I wear my hair in its natural Type 4c coily state.

Only a few weeks ago, I needed to take down my faux locs. Typically, I use clarifying shampoos post-takedown, but I wanted to try something a little different so, I used the All About Curls No Lather Cleanser while unraveling and unbraiding the extensions. I loved the scent, and its body lotion-like consistency that made me feel like I was treating my hair strands to a super nourishing experience. Once I removed all the extensions, I washed the cleanser our my natural hair and conditioned with the Daily Cream Conditioner.

After patting my curls dry with a microfiber towel, I touched them to see if they were soft or felt crunchy. I was surprised that not only were they super soft, but they were also incredibly defined! Seeing that definition just from the cleanser and conditioner alone got me thinking: I wonder what the gel will do? Although I had to get my hair wet again, I wanted to see what would happen.

Just like Style Dose mentioned in her words of wisdom, my soaking wet curls popped as I used my fingers to evenly distribute the All About Curls Soft Definition Gel from the ends of my hair to the roots. I loved that I used about a quarter-sized amount. My coils were actually shining (and, no, I didn’t have to use hair oil)!

United We Curl!

Overall, I like that this collection worked from my coils and for Crystal’s curls. I think it’s collections like these that really can give curlies of all patterns and textures the bounce, shine, and moisture we’re looking for. I definitely have the Soft Definition Gel in my Holy Grail collection and am looking forward to my new protective style takedown routine using the cleanser and conditioner.

Don’t just take my word for it. Try it for yourself!

Unbreakable Blonde

Remember when blonding hair meant breakage?

There are endless reasons to reach for the bleach…  Whether it’s that blondoholic who is never blonde enough, removing a vivid tone or lifting someone’s base color, bleach and high lift color are your most powerful weapons in the color arsenal.

It seems like just yesterday that all that power meant compromised, damaged hair. Those days are long gone thanks to the major leaps and bounds from the labs of Zotos Professional.

Brand new from AGEbeautiful… Ultra Bond!

Now we can lighten hair with full confidence and no fear of aging, breakage or damage, all with built-in bonding benefits.

This cutting edge series has both a powder and crème lightener, three high lift / hyper lift shades, dedicated developers and an at home maintenance line that is the best I have ever worked with.

One of my favorite clients has proudly dubbed herself a “blondoholic”.  As long as she was as bright and white as I could possibly get her, she would suffer through the inevitable breakage side effects.  15 plus years of blonding just jumped into the new era…

Ever since we have switched her over to using AGEbeautiful’s Ultra Bond Series the results speak for themselves:

Jamie Before Ultra Bond Blonding:

Notice how we could only take her blond so far and all that bleaching took its toll on her hair.

Jamie After Ultra Bond Bonding:

I’m not only able to get Jamie lighter and brighter but she is now an unbreakable blond!

Jamie Formula:

Dense foil wrap of babylights using AGEbeautiful Ultra Bond Powder Lightner and 40Volume

In between foil wrap free hand paint mid-lengths and ends with AGEbeautiful Crème Lightener and 40Volume

ProTip:  I love adding a drop of AGEbeautiful Ultra Bond Synergy Deep Treatment to my bleach mixtures for the ultimate in luxury consistency.

Lighten her natural level 7 base color using AGEbeautiful HLA and 40Volume

(There’s a reason they call this HyperLift, I’m convinced there is rocket fuel in there!)

Process for 45 minutes

ProTipTo create a crisp, cool blond try adding a drop of AGEbeautiful 8A into your HyperLift formula.

The piece de resistance to these products is that they have built-in bonding.

There is no messy adding in of ingredients to your bleach, these miracle workers are infused with bond-building arginine, silk amino acids and keratin.

Now for the best part… the Bond Synergy Hair Care:

This at home regime maintains the bonding benefits after all your brilliant blonding.

Doubling the strength and health in the hair.

AGEbeautiful Ultra Bond Hair Care In The Wild!

Jamie is excited to add the Bond Series Hair Care to her complete, nutritious hair regime.

ProTip:  These shampoos and conditioners are super versatile and a lot of my finer haired clients who are looking, not just for volume, but also density-fiber-building-protein are loving the way this line bulks and fortifies their limp locks.

Now that you can lighten with complete confidence go out and there and create unbreakable blondes…

I dare you to find breakage!

What a Curl Wants

Curly hair needs special care—and the typical wash-rinse-dry technique just won’t cut it. For the curls of your dreams, it’s time to rethink your routine! Check out our step-by-step guide for tips on keeping curls in tip-top shape.

STEP 1: LOSE THE LATHER

Sorry to burst your bubble, but traditional foaming shampoos contain sulfates that can leave curls dry and frizzy, and silicones that can weigh curls down.

Make a clean break from suds with All About Curls No-Lather Cleanser, or just go light on the lather with Lo-Lather Cleanser. They’re free from curl no-no’s like SLS/SLES sulfates, silicones and parabens.

Tips:

Work those fingertips to really exfoliate the scalp and loosen dirt and oils.

Alternate between No-Lather and Lo-Lather Cleansers to eliminate any potential for build-up and get extra-bouncy curls.

Go a day or two between washes and simply refresh your curls without cleansing.

STEP 2: KEEP CURLS IN MINT CONDITION

Curls thrive on moisture—and the curlier the hair, the longer it takes for natural oils to travel down each strand. So don’t skimp on the conditioner! Apply All About Curls Daily Cream Conditioner generously, and use fingers or a wide-tooth comb to detangle.

Next, you’re going to revolutionize the way you rinse with the Squish & Squeeze method. As you start to rinse, cup your hands and collect the water and conditioner coming out of your hair. Rest your curls in the water/conditioner mix, and squish and squeeze to seal in moisture and define curls. Repeat until your hair is no longer dripping.

Tips:

Girls with tighter curls may need to add extra conditioner and water.

Try leaving a little conditioner in the hair to lock in extra moisture.

Give curls extra TLC by deep conditioning at least once a week with Divine Treatment.

STEP 3: DO IT CURLY STYLE

After washing and conditioning, simply give hair a little squeeze to remove excess water, then apply All About Curls styling products on soaking wet hair. This works because curls are in their optimal state—defined and full of moisture—when they’re wet. Applying curl-specific styling products to wet hair helps close the cuticle to eliminate frizz and add lasting definition.

Tips:

If you prefer, you can even apply our styling products in the shower.

For the best curl definition, apply gel by gliding along the surface of the hair to avoid breaking up curl clumps.

STEP 4: DRY YOUR BEST

Do a little experimenting to discover the best drying method for your hair, whether it’s using a diffuser (set to cool for best results) or simply air drying (takes a bit longer, but it’s worth it). Sometimes, a combination works best: try air drying about 70% of the way, then flip hair upside down and diffuse for more voluminous curls.

Tips:

Before drying, gently squeeze out extra moisture with a microfiber towel or old cotton t-shirt, as regular towels can be harsh on curls.

Go hands-free when using a diffuser: just aim and let the tool do the work.

STEP 5: IT’S SCRUNCH TIME!

When using styling products, especially gels like our Soft Definition Gel and High Definition Gel, scrunching your hair is key to leave curls looking as soft and loose as possible. As mentioned above, apply the gel on wet hair. Then, once hair is totally dry, use your hands to scrunch curls from tips to roots with a light, slow motion—too much pressure can cause frizz.

Tip:

If you’re using multiple styling products, add gel last.

Take the time to treat your curls right, and they’ll reward you by looking bouncy, healthy, and luscious. With these techniques and All About Curls by your side, you’ve got everything you need to do your curls proud!

Zotos Introduces All About Curls

Ready to unleash your curl power? Then you’re ready for some exciting news! We are absolutely thrilled to announce the launch of Zotos Professional’s newest brand: All About Curls, created for naturally curly hair regardless of texture or tone.

Before we created our first curl-centric collection, we had to get into the minds of curly-haired girls. We understand that they’re part of a proud sisterhood that wants to flaunt—not flatten—their curls. So we designedAll About Curls products to give them everything they need to curl with confidence.

Infused with natural oils and extracts, the All About Curls line delivers nourished, defined, and de-frizzed curls without the silicones, parabens, and SLS/SLES sulfates* found in most traditional haircare products.

All About Curls is also all about teaching you a new way to wash. Typical foaming shampoos are taboo for curly locks, as they can result in dryness and frizz. That’s why the star of our new collection is a No-Lather Cleanser, which gently cleanses and hydrates—sans suds.

The All About Curls cleansing and conditioning routine is rounded out with three additional products:

Lo-Lather Cleanser– Gently cleanses and hydrates with a mild lather

Daily Cream Conditioner– Provides essential moisture for curls that are easy to detangle

Divine Treatment– Delivers intense moisture to extra thirsty curls

We also created four phenomenal styling formulas to give you plenty of versatility in creating the perfect finish for your curls:

Soft Definition Gel– Provides soft, crunchless hold for defined curls

High Definition Gel– Provides strong, crunchless hold for ultra-defined curls Boosting Foam– Provides light definition for full, voluminous curls

Bouncy Cream– A rich moisturizing styling cream for touchably soft, springy curls

So join the celebration and embrace those extraordinary strands with professional hair care designed to unite all in their quest for the ideal curl. All About Curls is available at Sally Beauty stores nationwide; visit sallybeauty.com to find a location near you.
